He surveyed his new desk, a blank canvas of potential and…disaster. He picked up the stapler, ran his finger across the cool metal, then put it back down. He felt a throbbing ache behind his eyes.

The team was friendly, welcoming. But their easy camaraderie only underscored his isolation. He didn’t know how to fit in. He felt a constant low hum of anxiety.

He stared out the window, at the distant city skyline, a landscape of unfamiliarity. He felt a tightening in his throat. He wished he could go back.
